A cargo vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman early Tuesday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said, in the latest security incident near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
According to UKMTO, the vessel reported over VHF Channel 16 that it had been hit while sailing approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman.
The maritime security agency said an investigation into the incident is underway and urged ships operating in the area to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity.
No casualties or damage details were immediately available, and no group has claimed responsibility for the reported attack.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.
