Independent developer Meaningful Games unveiled Osman Ghazi: Ottoman Rising, a third-person action-adventure game inspired by the life of Osman Ghazi, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, as developers continued to draw on historical settings to attract players interested in medieval-themed games.
According to the game’s official website and Steam listing, players took on the role of Osman Ghazi, leading the early Ottoman tribe through battles, political intrigue and territorial expansion in 13th-century Anatolia. The game combined sword combat, horseback travel, stealth missions, settlement management and open-world exploration.
Meaningful Games said the title featured historically inspired locations, including forests, fortresses and trade routes, while blending historical events with fictional gameplay mechanics.
“We’ve worked closely with historians to ensure authentic representation while taking creative liberties for gameplay purposes,” Meaningful Games said.
Players recruited companions, raided enemy strongholds and confronted Byzantine forces, Mongol armies and rival Anatolian beyliks as they worked to establish the foundations of what would later become the Ottoman Empire.
The game was announced for PC via Steam, where it was listed with a release date of “To be announced.” It was set to support English, Turkish, Arabic and French language options, according to its Steam page.
Historical action games had become an increasingly competitive segment of the video game industry, with developers using real historical figures and settings as the basis for narrative-driven experiences.
Titles inspired by medieval Europe, feudal Japan and the Ottoman period had gained audiences seeking story-rich alternatives to fantasy role-playing games.
Osman Ghazi, also known as Osman I, founded the Ottoman dynasty around the turn of the 14th century. The state established under his leadership later expanded into an empire spanning parts of Europe, Asia and Africa for more than six centuries.
Meaningful Games had not announced a release date or pricing details for Osman Ghazi: Ottoman Rising, saying the game would launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
