Diesel has become Rs65.35 per litre more expensive and petrol Rs25.10 costlier in just 12 days under the government’s new daily fuel pricing mechanism, piling further pressure on inflation-hit consumers across Pakistan.

According to official figures, the price of high-speed diesel stood at Rs323.03 per litre on July 17, but had climbed to Rs388.38 per litre by July 29, an increase of Rs65.35.

During the same period, the price of petrol rose from Rs310.71 per litre to Rs335.81 per litre, up Rs25.10.

The federal government introduced the daily petroleum pricing formula on July 17, after which fuel prices have fluctuated almost every day.

Over the 12-day period, petrol prices were reduced only twice — by 35 paisas per litre on July 21 and by Re1 per litre on July 27.

In contrast, diesel prices have not been reduced at all since the daily pricing mechanism came into effect.

International oil prices generally remained on an upward trend after July 17.

Although global oil prices fell by nearly 12% between July 25 and 28, Pakistani consumers have yet to see any relief at the pump.
