The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for the fourth spell of monsoon rains across Punjab, forecasting widespread rainfall from Wednesday through August 5.

The PDMA warned of urban flooding, landslides and rising water levels in rivers and streams during this period.

According to the PDMA, heavy rainfall is expected in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat region, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal and several other districts.

Rain is also forecast in various parts of southern Punjab.

The authority warned of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan, while landslides are likely in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed all commissioners, deputy commissioners and relevant departments to remain on high alert and complete precautionary measures ahead of the expected weather system.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also directed the district administrations to remain vigilant.

The PDMA cautioned that rainfall in upper catchment areas could increase water flows in rivers and streams, raising the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

The authority advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, refrain from staying in dilapidated or mud-built houses, and remain indoors during thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning.

Parents have also been urged to keep children away from standing water, electricity poles and overhead power lines.
