Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has placed all relevant departments on high alert amid heavy monsoon rains and directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain in the field to supervise relief and drainage operations.

According to the Punjab government, rainwater was drained in record time across the province following the chief minister’s directives.

WASA teams, dewatering machinery and district administrations remained active to clear inundated areas, while Safe City cameras were used for continuous monitoring.

The government said drainage operations were completed swiftly in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin despite heavy rainfall.

In Gujranwala, where 250 millimetres of rain was recorded, authorities said accumulated water had been completely drained. Major roads in different cities were also cleared of rainwater.

In Sialkot, drainage work was completed on Allama Iqbal Road, Kotli Behram, Commissioner Road, Khadim Ali Road, Tehsil Bazaar, Railway Road, Rangpura Road and Paris Road, restoring traffic and normal routine.

The chief minister said dewatering machinery and field teams remained operational throughout the rainfall response.

She expressed satisfaction over the timely performance of the Sialkot administration, saying drainage work began immediately after the rain stopped and was completed in the shortest possible time.

“I will not tolerate even a moment of inconvenience for the public. Immediate drainage in every city is our priority,” CM Maryam said.

She said authorities had ensured that rainwater did not remain stagnant in low-lying areas and directed officials to continue monitoring the situation across all districts, including Sialkot.
