Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Saturday, expressing concern over renewed tensions between the United States and Iran despite the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June 2026.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two leaders exchanged views on the latest regional developments and voiced deep concern over the escalation, saying the renewed conflict served no one’s interest and undermined efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
During the conversation, both foreign ministers agreed that the resurgence of tensions was detrimental to ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining peace in the region.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud shared the Kingdom’s perspective on ongoing diplomatic efforts and emphasised the importance of de-escalation and continued dialogue.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s position, calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and allow mediation efforts the necessary time and space to achieve a peaceful and meaningful outcome.
The two leaders also agreed to remain in close contact regarding the evolving regional situation.
In a separate telephone conversation, Dar spoke with Maldives Foreign Minister Dr Iruthisham Adam to discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
Dar congratulated Dr Adam on the forthcoming 61st anniversary of the Maldives’ Independence.
During the conversation, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on regional and global developments. Dr Adam appreciated Pakistan’s role in mediating the Iran-US conflict.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and the Maldives. They also agreed to remain in close contact.
