Delegations from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states began arriving in Islamabad on Saturday for the two-day 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights is hosting the conference under the theme “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward”.
Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Parliamentary Secretary on Human Rights Saba Sadiq and Parliamentary Secretary on Law and Justice Farah Naz Akbar received the delegations at Islamabad International Airport, along with senior officials from the ministries of human rights and foreign affairs.
The conference will bring together ministers for women and family affairs, senior government officials and representatives of OIC institutions, international organisations and development partners.
They will discuss ways to advance women’s socio-economic and political empowerment across OIC member countries.
Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will chair the conference on Pakistan’s behalf.
As chair, Pakistan will lead proceedings and work with member states to build consensus on empowering women across the Muslim world.
