Bollywood actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months in jail after the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in multiple cheque bounce cases.

Rajpal Yadav, who was released on interim bail in February, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in seven separate cases.

The court ordered that all the sentences would run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of three months in jail.

According to Indian media reports, Justice Sorna Kanta Sharma delivered the verdict in the seven cases filed by M/S Murali Projects Private Limited.

The court directed Rajpal Yadav to pay Rs 1.5 crore to the complainant in each case.

He was also ordered to pay Rs 1.04 lakh, along with additional amounts of Rs 75,000 and Rs 25,000 to the state.

The court further imposed a fine of more than Rs 5 crore on Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, in each case.

While delivering the verdict, Justice Sharma said Rajpal Yadav had been given several opportunities to settle the matter and fulfil his commitments but failed to do so.

The judge also noted that Rajpal Yadav and his lawyer had repeatedly made assurances before the court but did not honour them despite being granted multiple opportunities.

The court allowed Rajpal Yadav to challenge the verdict before a higher court within two months.
