Iran has no plans to hold talks with the United States in the coming days, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, dismissing reports of an imminent high-level meeting between the two countries.

Speaking during his weekly press conference, Baghaei said Tehran had not scheduled any meetings with US officials and clarified that discussions expected to take place in Doha would instead focus on implementing provisions of the memorandum of understanding reached between the two sides.

“We have not planned any meeting with Americans in the coming days,” Baghaei said, adding that Iranian officials would hold talks with their Qatari counterparts on issues including the release of Iran’s frozen assets.

Baghaei said the process of implementing the memorandum’s provisions, including the release of Iranian assets, was underway and expressed hope that the process would reach a favourable conclusion.

Addressing the prospects for future negotiations with Washington, the spokesman said any further talks would depend on the implementation of commitments already agreed upon, stressing that a meeting must have a clear purpose and necessity.

He warned that recent US actions against Iran would negatively affect the continuation of the process, accusing Washington of violating provisions of the memorandum of understanding.

“It is natural that America’s failure to adhere to its commitments under the memorandum of understanding will have a negative impact on the continuation of the process,” Baghaei said, adding that Iran would respond decisively to any future aggression.

The spokesman also said negotiations regarding the release of Iran’s frozen assets were progressing favourably and that an Iranian expert delegation would meet Qatari officials in Doha to discuss the matter further.

Commenting on reports of NATO member states’ involvement in military operations against Iran, Baghaei said Tehran regarded remarks by the NATO secretary-general as an “explicit confession” of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

He said Iran would continue to pursue accountability for all parties that directly or indirectly participated in military actions against the country.

Baghaei further said Iran remained committed to ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the memorandum of understanding, while rejecting foreign intervention in the strategic waterway’s management.

He also reiterated Tehran’s support for regional security initiatives involving neighbouring countries and welcomed proposals for broader regional dialogue involving Gulf states, Iran and Iraq.
