The Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved a 100% increase in the utility allowance for its staff and officers, following the green light from Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, sources said on Thursday.
According to an official notification, the revised allowances will take effect from July 1, 2026, and will be financed through the approved budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
The utility allowance covers gas and electricity expenses, the notification added.
Under the revised structure, employees in Grade 1 to 6 will see their allowance doubled from Rs6,000 to Rs12,000.
For Grade 7 to 10 staff, the allowance has been increased from Rs8,000 to Rs16,000, while Grade 11 to 15 employees will now receive Rs20,000 instead of Rs10,000.
For officers, the allowance for Grade 16 has been raised from Rs12,000 to Rs24,000, while Grade 17 officers will receive Rs30,000 instead of Rs15,000.
The notification further states that Grade 18 officers will now get Rs36,000, up from Rs18,000, while Grade 19 officers’ allowance has been increased from Rs21,000 to Rs42,000.
Grade 20 officers will receive Rs48,000, up from Rs24,000.
For senior officers in Grade 21 and above, the utility allowance has been doubled from Rs30,000 to Rs60,000.
The notification added that any additional expenditure arising from the increase will be met from the approved budget of the fiscal year 2026-27.
