A memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Friday at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland, according to the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) confirmed to Anadolu news agency that the signing is currently planned for June 19 in the canton of Nidwalden, following days of coordination with multiple parties involved in the talks.
FDFA spokesperson Pierre-Alain Eltschinger said Switzerland has maintained close contact with the US, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar in the lead-up to the planned agreement, which is being facilitated through a broader diplomatic framework involving regional mediators.
According to the ministry, the venue at Bürgenstock was proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators as well as by representatives from both Washington and Tehran, reflecting the multi-party effort behind the negotiations.
“Switzerland is acting as a facilitator in this process, creating the practical and diplomatic conditions necessary for this meeting to take place on Swiss territory,” Eltschinger said.
However, officials declined to provide details on the contents of the memorandum or the structure of the signing ceremony, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing process.
“No further information can be provided at this stage regarding the procedure or the details of the planned signing,” the FDFA added.
The agreement marks a notable step in ongoing diplomatic efforts involving the US and Iran, with Switzerland playing a neutral hosting role in high-level negotiations involving multiple regional stakeholders.
