PM hopes Iran peace deal will be finalised with ‘dignity and honour’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation on Eid al-Azha and discussed regional developments, ongoing peace efforts and bilateral solidarity amid the current Middle East crisis.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders held a warm and cordial discussion lasting around 30 minutes. They exchanged Eid greetings and conveyed good wishes to the people of both countries and the wider Muslim Ummah.

During the conversation, President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s role in efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their contributions.

The Iranian president also acknowledged the role of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye and other regional countries participating in peace efforts.

PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people over the loss of lives during the ongoing crisis and said Pakistan stood by Iran as a brotherly neighbouring country.

The prime minister said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had made tireless efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

He expressed hope that a peace agreement would be finalised soon in line with the dignity and honour of the Iranian nation, adding that regional peace would help unlock Iran’s economic potential and benefit the wider region.

The statement said both leaders agreed to remain in close coordination and continue consultations on regional developments.
