Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs50,000 fine for people found dumping animal waste and offal in the streets and residential neighbourhoods during Eid-ul-Azha.

The chief minister gave the approval while chairing a meeting in Lahore on Saturday.

Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to discourage people from disposing of animal waste in prohibited places.

She also directed special cleaning and monitoring of drains, canals and other public places in every city.

The meeting was informed that vigilance squads had been formed to monitor and prevent the dumping of animal remains and waste at prohibited locations.

Maryam Nawaz also directed authorities to launch a public awareness campaign urging citizens not to dispose of sacrificial waste improperly.

The chief minister ordered special cleaning and monitoring arrangements for drains, canals, and other public areas in every city across Punjab.

She also directed authorities to ensure cleanliness in railway colonies, private housing societies, and cantonment areas during Eid-ul-Azha.

Maryam Nawaz further instructed officials to make special cleanliness arrangements in 2,687 major commercial markets across the province.

According to the briefing, biodegradable shopping bags will be provided for the disposal of offal and animal waste.

Rose water will also be sprayed at Eid prayer gatherings and mosques.

Officials said more than 176,000 sanitation workers and over 8,000 temporary staff members would participate in the province-wide Eid cleanliness operation.

The meeting was told that 3,800 primary collection centres and 3,100 dumping sites would be established for animal waste.

Authorities also informed the meeting that 4,500 special camps had been established under the “Suthra Punjab” operation. Loader rickshaws, mini dumpers, tractor-trolleys, and pickup vehicles would be hired to support the campaign.

Speaking during the meeting, the chief minister said all government departments would work as “one unit” to ensure cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha, adding that outstanding performance would be rewarded while negligence would invite accountability.
