The United States has put forward new conditions for the resumption of talks with Iran, under which Washington demands that Tehran hand over 400 kilograms of enriched uranium, according to Iranian news agency Fars.

Fars reported that the US conditions were presented in response to Iran’s proposals, which it said are considered unacceptable to Tehran. The report said Washington’s main demand is the handover of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium.

It also said the US conditions include allowing Iran to keep only one nuclear facility operational, while Washington has refused to release 25 per cent of Iran’s frozen assets.

According to Fars, the conditions further state that the cessation of tensions on various fronts and military activities would be conditional on holding talks.

The report said Iran has set five basic conditions for any possible negotiations, including an end to hostilities on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, the lifting of sanctions, the restoration of frozen assets, compensation for war damages, and recognition of Iran’s sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz.

Fars reported that Tehran believes even if it accepts the US conditions, the threat of possible aggression from the United States and Israel would remain.

The report quoted analysts as saying the American proposals aim to achieve goals Washington has not achieved despite military pressure. It said there has been no immediate announcement or response from US officials.
