At least four children were killed and 12 others injured after the roof of a nursery classroom collapsed at a private school in Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday, according to rescue officials.
Two teachers and two labourers were also pulled out of the rubble in injured condition after a joint rescue operation carried out by Rescue 1122, police and district administration officials.
Rescue authorities said emergency teams reached the site immediately after receiving reports of the collapse and launched an operation using heavy machinery and modern equipment.
The rescue effort continued for several hours before all victims were recovered from the debris, and the operation was declared complete.
Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer of Dera Ghazi Khan remained present at the site and supervised the rescue activities.
According to preliminary reports, construction work was underway at the school and may have contributed to the collapse.
Following the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the tragedy, sought an immediate report from the relevant authorities and ordered an investigation into the incident.
The incident left the area in mourning, with grieving parents and residents gathering near the school.
