Pakistani Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Monday that his position on the One Constitution housing scheme remained unchanged and that the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) stance that the project was sold illegally would be upheld before a newly formed inquiry committee.
“My stance on One Constitution is exactly the same today as it was from the first day,” Naqvi told journalists in an informal conversation in Lahore. “The CDA’s stance is also that it was sold illegally.”
Naqvi said the committee formed to examine the matter would hear the same position and expressed confidence that the legal process would deliver results. “Insha Allah, the law will win,” he said.
The minister stressed that the law must apply equally across society. “It cannot be that there is a separate law for the poor and a separate law for the rich,” he said.
Describing the alleged scheme as unprecedented in scale, Naqvi said politicians, bureaucrats, judges and bankers were among those implicated. “There has never been such a big scheme scam in the history of Pakistan,” he said, adding that those involved had benefited for 21 years.
He called for accountability to extend beyond physical assets. “I will suggest that we should not go after the building — we should also go after those people who have harmed this country,” Naqvi said.
The minister pledged his full backing to the CDA throughout the process. “I will fully support the CDA’s stance,” he said.
