Police have arrested suspects involved in a jewellery shop burglary in Karachi’s Saddar area, detaining them from Jhang in Punjab, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, the case was registered after a break-in at the jewellery shop located on Karachi’s Zaibunnisa Street.
According to the shop owner, he had closed his store as usual on the night of April 28, but the next morning, he was informed about the break-in.
Upon inspection, he discovered that the shop’s safe was missing, the shop owner told the police.
He told police that gold jewellery, silver pieces, cash worth around Rs2 million, and his licenced pistol had been stolen.
He also expressed suspicion about the shop’s watchman.
DIG South Asad Raza said that two close associates of the main suspect had been arrested in Jhang.
A significant quantity of stolen gold and silver has been recovered from their possession.
Police officials added that the suspects had been living in Karachi’s Lines Area before the crime, allegedly in a rented house arranged with the help of a relative who is a police officer.
After carrying out the burglary, they fled the city and moved to Jhang.
Authorities said a raid was also conducted at the main suspect’s residence, but he managed to escape.
However, some jewellery was recovered from the premises.
Police said more than 50% of the stolen valuables have been recovered so far, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the main suspect and recover the remaining items.
