Interest in electric bikes and scooters has risen sharply across the country following an increase in petroleum product prices, with monthly sales almost doubling in March 2026 compared to earlier months.

Industry figures show that the combined average monthly sales of electric bikes and scooters stood at around 15,000 units before March 2026, but jumped to 29,000 units in March 2026.

Manufacturers say the surge reflects growing consumer interest in alternative transport options as fuel costs continue to rise, making electric mobility a more attractive option for daily commuters.

The trend indicates a shift in purchasing behaviour, with more citizens exploring cost-saving transport solutions amid inflationary pressure on fuel prices.
