US President Donald Trump said that Vice President JD Vance and a senior American delegation are en route to Islamabad for the next round of talks with Iran, expressing confidence that negotiations will proceed despite uncertainty, New York Post reported on Monday.

Speaking to The Post, Trump said the delegation, which includes special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, is expected to arrive within hours.

“They’re heading over now,” Trump said. “They’ll be there tonight, [Islamabad] time.”

“We’re supposed to have the talks,” Trump said, downplaying concerns of a breakdown. “I would assume at this point nobody’s playing games.”

He also signalled openness to direct engagement with the Iranian leadership if progress is made.

“I have no problem meeting them,” he said. “If they want to meet… I have no problem meeting them.”

Trump reiterated that Iran’s nuclear programme remains the central issue, calling for Tehran to abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons.

“There will be no nuclear weapon,” he said, adding that Iran could prosper if it complies.

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran is positively reviewing participation in the proposed talks, though no final decision has been taken.

The official said mediation efforts led by Pakistan are ongoing to help resolve tensions, including the US blockade of Iranian ports, and to facilitate Iran’s presence at the negotiations.

Pakistan is preparing to host the next round in Islamabad, stepping up diplomatic and security arrangements.

However, Iran has maintained it will not join talks unless the blockade is lifted, leaving the process delicately poised.
