Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan will continue to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran, following 24 hours of “constructive and comprehensive” peace talks in Islamabad.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, Dar said a high-level US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance and an Iranian delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf participated in the negotiations.

He said the talks continued for 24 hours, during which multiple rounds of detailed and constructive discussions were held between the two sides.

Dar expressed gratitude to both the US and Iranian delegations for engaging seriously in the negotiation process, adding that he, along with Field Marshal Asim Munir, assisted in facilitating the dialogue.

He noted that the military leadership played an important role in ensuring the discussions remained constructive.

The deputy prime minister said both sides responded positively to a request made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which helped move the talks forward.

He expressed hope that negotiations between the two countries would continue in the future and that both sides would proceed with a positive approach.

Dar said it is imperative that both “parties continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire”.

“We hope that the two sides will continue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prosperity for the entire region and beyond.”

Pakistan will continue to “play its role to facilitate engagement and dialogue between Iran and the US “in the days to come,” he added.

Dar also thanked the US and Iranian delegations for acknowledging Pakistan’s constructive role in mediation.

The foreign minister said that Islamabad would continue to act as a facilitator in the peace process and remain committed to promoting regional stability.
