National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has warned citizens to renew their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) before expiry, cautioning that delays could lead to disruption of essential services, including mobile SIMs and bank accounts.

In a statement, a Nadra spokesperson said expired identity cards could deprive individuals of financial and communication services, as well as limit access to government and welfare programmes.

The authority noted that while penalties for late renewal may be imposed, they are not currently being enforced. However, additional fees and fines are likely after June.

According to Nadra data, millions of identity cards and related documents have already expired across the country. Citizens are regularly reminded through SMS alerts to renew their CNICs on time.

Nadra also advised individuals turning 18 to obtain their CNICs promptly, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) requires a valid identity card for mobile services.

The authority revealed that over 8.1 million SIMs are currently active on expired CNICs and could be blocked at any time.

SIMs registered under deceased individuals are also at risk of being disconnected, prompting Nadra to urge citizens to transfer such numbers into their own names immediately.

For renewal, citizens can visit Nadra registration centres, use the Pak-ID mobile application, or access e-Sahulat facilities, the spokesperson added.
