US President Donald Trump has announced sweeping tariffs on countries supplying weapons to Iran, while also signalling potential relief in sanctions as a fragile ceasefire takes hold.

In a statement posted on Wednesday on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump warned that any country providing military equipment to Iran would face an immediate 50% tariff on all exports to the United States. He said the measure would be enforced without exemptions.

The announcement comes as a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran begins to take effect. US officials confirmed that the first American vessel has already passed through the Strait of Hormuz following the truce.

Trump also indicated a softer stance toward Iran, saying Washington was open to easing tariffs and sanctions as part of broader efforts to end the conflict. He claimed progress had already been made on several points of a proposed 15-point peace framework.

The US president further asserted that Iran would halt uranium enrichment and that previously enriched material buried underground would be jointly recovered and monitored, including via satellite tracking.

Despite the strong remarks, there has been no immediate official response from Tehran.
