Israel has expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, but clarified that the ceasefire does not include Lebanon.

The United States and Iran agreed to the truce on Tuesday, just an hour before Trump’s deadline to attack Iran was set to expire.

Tehran announced it would guarantee safe passage for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz during the two-week pause, with negotiations with the US scheduled to start Friday in Pakistan.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said, “Israel supports President Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, subject to Iran immediately opening the straits and stopping all attacks on the US, Israel, and countries in the region.”

The statement added that Israel “supports the US effort to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, and terror threat.”

However, the statement noted that the ceasefire “does not include Lebanon,” contradicting Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who said the ceasefire covered “everywhere, including Lebanon.”

Lebanon entered the conflict after Iran-backed Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel, prompting Israeli air raids and ground attacks that have killed more than 1,500 people.

Israel had encouraged Trump to join military action against Iran, and initial strikes in February reportedly killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
