The talk between Iran and the United States will begin in Islamabad on Friday, following agreement by both sides to a two-week ceasefire, Iranian officials said on Wednesday.

Negotiations with Washington will be based on Tehran’s 10-point proposal, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council added.

According to Iranian authorities, the 10-point proposal includes demands for oversight of the Strait of Hormuz, withdrawal of US combat forces from the Middle East, an end to military operations against allied groups, and full compensation for war damages.

The proposal also calls for the lifting of sanctions by the United States, the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as the release of frozen Iranian assets and formal ratification of any agreement through a binding UN resolution.

Despite agreeing to negotiations, Iran expressed deep mistrust of the United States, warning it was prepared to respond forcefully to any escalation.

The council said the two-week negotiation period could be extended by mutual agreement.
