In a major setback to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday disqualified party senator Murad Saeed.
According to an official notification, the Election Commission has also declared his Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vacant.
The ECP said the decision was based on a ruling by an anti-terrorism court, which had sentenced Murad Saeed to 10 years in prison.
The disqualification was carried out under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution.
Following the ruling, the commission formally de-notified Murad Saeed as a member of the Senate and declared the general seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vacant.
Murad Saeed, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been elected to the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2025.
