Israel has informed the United States that it is facing a severe shortage of missile interceptors used to stop incoming attacks during the ongoing war with Iran.
According to a report by the American website Semaphore, a US official said Washington had been aware for several months that Israel’s stock of missile interceptors was declining.
The official stressed that the United States was not facing the same issue and still had sufficient resources to protect its bases, personnel and interests in the region.
The official added that Israel is working on various solutions to overcome the shortage and maintain its defence capability.
Reports also suggest that Israel launched the war against Iran despite already facing a limited supply of interceptors.
US President Donald Trump previously said the United States has a nearly unlimited supply of weapons and ammunition, although some reports indicate US military stockpiles may be lower than expected.
Trump initially predicted the war against Iran would end in about four weeks and later described it as a short-term campaign.
However, on Friday, he said the conflict would continue for as long as necessary.
