A suspected robber was killed while two police officers and a passerby were injured during an alleged police encounter near Khayaban-e-Saadi in Karachi’s Defence Phase VII, police said on Saturday.
According to officials, the exchange of fire took place when police confronted suspected robbers in the area.
One suspect was killed in the shootout, while two police officers — identified as 25-year-old Shahzad and 35-year-old Arsalan — sustained injuries along with a passerby.
The body and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, while authorities are working to confirm the identities of the deceased suspect and the injured civilian.
In a separate incident near Rehmania Mosque on Tariq Road, police said a group of robbers involved in street crime opened fire after spotting a police team.
During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect was arrested in an injured condition, while his accomplice managed to escape.
Police have launched a search operation to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) carried out a separate operation in the city and arrested three suspects, including the alleged ringleader of the Chandio gang, during a raid in the Sindhi Goth area based on intelligence information.
The arrested suspects were identified as Rajab alias Raju, Munir Ali Chandio and Abdul Jabbar.
Rangers officials said a motorcycle, five fake number plates and cash were recovered from their possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in street crimes, robbery and theft of iron and copper from Pakistan Steel Mills.
Authorities said multiple cases had already been registered against them at various police stations.
The detained suspects have been handed over to the police for further legal action.
