Govt decides to appoint Nehal Hashmi as Sindh Governor

The federal government has decided to appoint senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi as the Governor of Sindh.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent a summary in this regard to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met Nehal Hashmi to congratulate him on his appointment.

Other officials present included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Adviser Rana Sanaullah.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated Hashmi on his appointment.

Nehal Hashmi, a senior leader of the PML-N, hails from Karachi.

Nehal Hashmi previously served as a member of the Senate from March 2015 to February 2018.

He also served as Adviser on Law, Justice, and Human Rights to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from 1997 to 1999.

On February 1, 2018, the Supreme Court of Pakistan sentenced Hashmi in a contempt of court case, giving him a one-month prison term.

As a result, he was disqualified from holding any public office for five years.
