Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country would defend its sovereignty “to the last breath”, responding sharply to threats from US President Donald Trump.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said the Iranian nation would not bow to any pressure or threats and would stand firmly to defend the country.

“Iran will protect its homeland and its people at all costs,” he said.

The Iranian president said the country’s defensive operations target only those sites and facilities from where hostile actions are launched against Iran and its people.

According to Pezeshkian, any location or resource used as a base for attacks on Iran would be considered a legitimate target.

He added that Iran’s defence strategy was fully focused on protecting the country and its citizens, warning that any aggression would receive a strong response.

The statement came after Trump threatened Iran with “very severe” attacks earlier in the day. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, the US president warned that additional targets could be struck as tensions intensify.
