Punjab issues driving permits for 16 to 18-year-olds

Driving permits have been issued for children aged 16 to 18 across Punjab, with authorities setting the fee at Rs500 per permit.

Officials said applicants must pass both a road test and a sign test to qualify. Permission from a father or guardian is mandatory, and a stamped consent paper must be submitted along with Form B.

Under the new rules, permit holders will not be allowed to ride motorcycles above 125cc. Electric bikes will also be subject to specified limits.

Authorities said the permit will be cancelled once the holder turns 18, after which a regular driving licence will need to be obtained.
