Pakistan and Qatar on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and maintaining close coordination on regional and international issues.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in Doha between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed regional and global developments. They expressed satisfaction over growing political, economic and institutional engagement between the two countries.
Regional issues, including the situation in Gaza and broader Gulf security dynamics, also came under discussion. PM Shehbaz appreciated Qatar’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation in the region.
Both sides underscored the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law, including the UN Charter.
Talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence, labour mobility and cultural exchanges. The leaders agreed to activate a joint task force to accelerate progress in these areas.
They also stressed the importance of implementing decisions taken during recent high-level engagements and through institutional platforms such as the Joint Ministerial Commission and Bilateral Political Consultations.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present at the meeting.
