Pakistan has announced the targeting of “seven terrorist camps” in Afghanistan as part of its efforts to eliminate alleged terrorist hideouts.
The move comes in the wake of a series of recent suicide bombings that targeted both security personnel and civilians in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s armed forces hit “terrorist camps and hideouts belonging to Pakistani Taliban of (Fitna Al Khwarij) and its affiliates and (the Islamic State-Khorasan Province) at the border region of Pakistan-Afghan border,” the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced in a post early Sunday on the social media platform X.
The statement said that there is evidence pointing to the involvement of terrorist leadership and facilitators based in Afghanistan in the attacks on a mosque in Islamabad, as well as bombings in Bajaur and Bannu.
The ministry said that groups such as the Pakistani Taliban and the “Fitna Al Khawarij” faction, along with their allies, have claimed responsibility for these attacks.
According to the statement, Pakistan had gathered solid intelligence indicating that these bombings were carried out under the guidance of terrorist leaders operating from Afghanistan.
The ministry statement said that Pakistani officials repeatedly urged the Afghan interim government to take concrete and verifiable measures to prevent its territory from being used by terrorist organisations and proxy elements.
However, the Afghan Taliban regime failed to undertake any substantive action against them, the statement added.
The ministry clarified that the operations carried out by Pakistan were targeted and limited in scope, designed to disrupt terrorist networks operating across the border.
The ministry emphasised that while Pakistan seeks peace and stability in the region, the security of its citizens remains the top priority, and there will be no compromise on this issue.
Pakistan also called on the Afghan interim regime to fulfil its responsibilities and prevent its territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Pakistan has also appealed to the international community to press the Afghan Taliban regime to uphold its commitments under the Doha Agreement to ensure peace and security both regionally and globally.
According to Afghan media and local sources, air strikes were reported in various regions of Afghanistan.
A powerful explosion was heard in the Baraml district of Paktika province, which is believed to have been the result of an air strike targeting a terrorist hideout.
Sources indicate that jet aircraft conducted an air operation in Baraml district, causing significant damage to the infrastructure of the terrorists in the area.
However, these claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no confirmation regarding the number of casualties or injuries from reliable sources.
Following the attack in Paktika, aircraft reportedly targeted the Khogyani district in Nangarhar province.
Additionally, Afghan media outlets have reported air strikes in the Ghani Khel and Bihsud areas, though details about the potential damage or casualties at these locations remain unclear.
As of now, there has been no formal response from the Afghan interim government regarding the statement or the operations.
