India weigh spin option ahead of Pakistan showdown

With the high-pressure showdown against Pakistan hours away, India’s team management appears ready to shuffle the playing XI, looking to fine-tune the balance of the side by bringing in an extra spinner for the crucial T20 World Cup clash.

According to reports in Indian media, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh is likely to be replaced by spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Changes are also expected in the batting order.

Reports suggest that opener Abhishek Sharma has been declared fully fit and will open the innings alongside wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan.

Following Abhishek’s return, Rinku Singh is likely to be left out of the side.

The squad is also likely to include young batter Tilak Varma, while experienced batter Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson are set to strengthen the middle order.

In the all-rounders and bowling department, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy are expected to feature, while pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains a key component of the attack.

Earlier, there had been intense debate over India’s likely playing XI for the high-stakes encounter with Pakistan in Colombo.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir were reportedly facing tough decisions, particularly regarding the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav to bolster the spin department.

Indian media now claim that the management has opted to add the wrist-spinner for the crucial contest.

India have won both of their group-stage matches so far, while Pakistan also stand unbeaten with two victories.

The winner of today’s match will strengthen their chances of finishing at the top of Group A.
