The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu region has arrested a wanted commander of a proscribed organisation during a targeted intelligence-based operation in Bannu, officials said on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Usama alias Daniyal alias Baghi, was arrested from the People Bazaar area, according to CTD authorities.
Officials said the arrested militant commander has confessed to involvement in the kidnapping and killing of civilians, members of peace committees, and security personnel.
During initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to his role in at least nine major terrorist attacks. He also confessed to involvement in the killing of Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan and attacks on his guards.
CTD officials said Usama also admitted to the kidnapping and killing of former SHO Abid Wazir and the murder of peace committee leaders in Lakki Marwat.
He further confessed to involvement in the abduction of Frontier Corps personnel, the killing of a polio officer and his gunman, and several other militant activities.
According to investigators, the suspect was also engaged in reconnaissance of sensitive installations, kidnapping of civilians, and setting up illegal checkpoints in different areas.
Authorities said further investigation is underway, while raids are being conducted to arrest his accomplices.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Additional IG CTD praised the CTD team for the successful operation and commended their professionalism.
Officials reaffirmed their resolve to further intensify targeted operations against militants in the southern districts of the province.
