Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday visited the Imambargah in Tarlai and expressed deep grief and condolences to the families of those martyred in last week’s terrorist attack.
The prime minister offered Fateha and prayed for the elevated ranks of the martyrs and the early recovery of the injured.
He said no compensation could make up for the loss of precious lives, but announced financial assistance for the affected families. He approved Rs10 million for Shaheed Oun Abbas, who resisted the suicide attacker, Rs5 million for each martyr, Rs3 million for each severely injured person, and Rs1 million for those with minor injuries.
During his visit to Imambargah Khadijatul Kubra in Tarlai Kalan, where the suicide attack took place last Friday, the prime minister met the bereaved families and those injured in the incident.
Addressing the families, he said the entire nation was mourning the tragedy, which claimed the lives of elders, children and youth, and left many others injured.
Terming the attack the “worst kind of barbaric act,” he said no words were enough to condemn it.
He said religious leaders and ulema had unanimously denounced the attack and praised them for foiling the enemy’s designs through unity and solidarity.
Paying tribute to Shaheed Oun Abbas, the prime minister said his sacrifice in resisting the attacker would be remembered in golden words, adding that such sacrifices in the fight against terrorism would not go in vain.
He said the attempt to create sectarian discord in society had failed miserably.
The prime minister also commended the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and police for their ongoing operations against terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, saying the nation was indebted to their sacrifices.
He prayed for the complete eradication of terrorism from the country.
Later, the prime minister visited the residence of Shaheed Oun Abbas to offer Fateha and condolences.
Federal ministers, along with police and district administration officials, accompanied the prime minister and briefed him on the incident.
