Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Wednesday inaugurated the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 50 schools in Khyber district that were destroyed in terrorist attacks.
The project was completed with financial and technical assistance from China for Rs3.21 billion.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said militants had destroyed schools, but the provincial government had rebuilt the future of the coming generations. He said education would be used as a tool to counter extremism in the region.
“This project is not just about constructing buildings. It is an investment in our children and our future,” CM Afridi said.
He added that thousands of students would now have access to safe, modern, and quality educational facilities.
Officials briefed the chief minister that the project included the reconstruction of 35 primary, seven middle, seven high, and one senior high school. All institutions have been made fully functional and handed over to the Education Department.
The briefing said that solar power systems, clean drinking water, and sanitation facilities had been installed in the schools.
Authorities said the restoration of educational institutions had revived academic activities in Bara and other affected areas.
