A police officer was killed on Friday after unknown gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Chaman’s Killi Haji Akbar area, officials said.

Station House Officer Mohsin said the attack took place during a routine polio campaign when armed assailants riding a motorcycle targeted the police personnel assigned to protect the team.

As a result, Constable Nizamuddin was killed on the spot, while the attackers managed to escape.

The victim’s body was shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said security forces reached the scene immediately and launched a search operation to trace the suspects.

An investigation is underway, and additional security has been deployed in the area.
