Emory University in the American city of Atlanta has fired Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, the daughter of Ali Larijani, secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council.
According to a report, Fatemeh Larijani was a doctor at the university’s medical school and was teaching haematology and medical oncology as an assistant professor, but she got fired from the institution.
Emory University has confirmed that Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani is no longer serving at the university, but the institution refused to provide reasons for the dismissal or further details.
According to Newsweek, Fatemeh Larijani received her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed her residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
She received her fellowship in haematology from Indiana University, where she also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research, after which she served as an assistant professor in the Department of Haematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.
The dismissal came after US House of Representatives member Earl Carter wrote a letter to university officials, in which he demanded the immediate dismissal of Fatemeh Larijani and the revocation of her medical license.
Iranian-Americans also protested outside Emory University’s One Ship Cancer Institute, demanding Fatemeh Larijani’s dismissal.
It should be noted that Fatemeh Larijani’s father, Ali Larijani, was a former speaker of Iran’s parliament and a key nuclear negotiator, and later became secretary of the National Security Council.
