Gul Plaza fire: Bodies of four family members identified

Amid the ongoing rescue and search operations at Karachi’s Gul Plaza, authorities on Sunday confirmed the identities of four members of a single family who lost their lives in the devastating fire.

Six members of the affected family, who belonged to Karachi’s Delhi Colony, had gone missing after they were trapped in the Gul Plaza fire.

The missing included 32-year-old Mohammad Saad, 35-year-old Misbah Parveen, 14-year-old Maryam, 30-year-old Nimra, and 30-year-old Irfan.

Following DNA sample matches, the bodies of four family members have now been identified, while the identification of two members is still pending.

Officials said the identified bodies will be handed over to their relatives today (Sunday) at 12.30pm, with funeral prayers scheduled for 3pm at the Eidgah Ground in Delhi Colony.

With this development, the total number of identified victims in the Gul Plaza fire has reached 28.

Rescue authorities stated that 73 bodies and remains have been recovered from the shopping centre so far, while 82 people remain missing, and search operations for them continue.

So far, 55 families have provided DNA samples for the identification process.

A fresh list of the 82 missing persons has also been issued, including names, photographs, and identity cards for individuals aged between 11 and 70 years.
