The Met Office has forecast light rain in Karachi today (Thursday), followed by a marked increase in cold weather from Friday.
A western weather system bringing snow and rain has entered Pakistan through Balochistan, meteorologists said, affecting both the northern and western regions of the country.
Snowfall is ongoing in Quetta and other northern districts of Balochistan, while temperatures have dropped further, intensifying the cold.
The system is expected to reach western parts of Sindh by Thursday night, bringing light rain to Karachi and rainfall to the western districts of the province.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that Karachi will come under a cold wave from Friday, with temperatures likely to fall into the single digits.
PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham said the system began influencing Balochistan late Wednesday night, and its effects—including snowfall in northern Balochistan—will be felt across Sindh, including Karachi.
Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures as the cold wave intensifies and the weather system continues to affect the region.
