Earthquake shakes Gilgit-Baltistan, Karakoram highway blocked

Gilgit-Baltistan experienced earthquake tremors on Monday, shaking several districts including Gilgit, Hunza, Nager, Ghizer, and Diamer.

The tremors caused rocks to fall from mountains, blocking parts of the Karakoram Highway.

The quake caused fear and panic among the residents as the earthquake jolts were felt across the region.

The earthquake was also felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the seismological centre, the quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre was located in a hilly area of northwestern Kashmir, about 10 kilometres underground.

People across affected areas experienced fear as the tremors shook buildings and caused minor landslides in mountainous regions.

Authorities and residents were inspecting affected areas and clearing rocks from blocked roads.
