A speeding trailer ran over a family riding a motorcycle in Karachi’s Mauripur area, killing a two-year-old child and injuring his parents, police said on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Mannan Ali. His father, Danish, and mother, Zainab, sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital. The family was returning home when the accident occurred, police said.
Authorities arrested the trailer driver at the scene and took the vehicle into custody. An investigation is underway.
Grieving relatives demanded justice, questioning how long citizens would continue to bear the cost of deadly traffic violations involving heavy vehicles.
The affected family resides in Lyari’s Khadda Market area and originally belongs to Ranipur.
The incident adds to a growing toll from road accidents in Karachi.
Police data shows that more than 40 people have been killed in traffic accidents in the city so far this year, with heavy vehicles frequently involved.
