The Sindh government has granted permission to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to hold a public rally in Karachi, issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) subject to strict conditions, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday.
Addressing the media, Memon said PTI would hold its rally on Sunday at Bagh-e-Jinnah Ground in Karachi.
He said the NOC had been issued with clear terms to ensure public safety, law and order, and smooth traffic flow in the city.
“The complete responsibility for maintaining law and order during the rally will rest with the organisers,” the minister said.
He added that no provocative speeches, hate speech, or sectarian remarks would be allowed during the gathering.
Memon said speeches against Pakistan or state institutions would not be permitted under any circumstances. He warned that any violation of the agreed conditions could lead to immediate action by the authorities.
The information minister also said PTI organisers would be responsible for ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow in the surrounding areas.
He added that the programme must conclude before the designated time as part of the security plan.
“For security reasons, the district administration will have the authority to cancel the permission at any stage if the situation so demands,” Memon said.
The approval for the rally comes as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is in Sindh to prepare for a broader street movement planned by the party across the country.
CM Afridi arrived in Karachi on Friday, where Sindh Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani received him at Jinnah International Airport, presenting him with a traditional Sindhi cap and ajrak amid slogans raised by PTI supporters.
His three-day visit is aimed at energising the party’s support base in Sindh and mobilising workers ahead of upcoming political activities.
Earlier on Saturday, the KP chief minister led a PTI march from Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area towards Hyderabad as part of the party’s street movement ahead of the Karachi rally and other scheduled engagements. The procession was intended to build momentum for PTI’s nationwide campaign.
Afridi held meetings with party leaders and supporters in Hyderabad before returning to Karachi, party sources said.
