K-Electric launches fresh crackdown on power theft at SITE feeder

K-Electric (KE) has carried out another targeted enforcement drive in Karachi’s SITE area after electricity theft resumed on a loadshed-exempted industrial feeder, barely a week after a similar operation dismantled an illegal network.

The utility said its governance teams, working with law enforcement agencies, moved in after advanced data monitoring detected fresh losses on the feeder within days of the earlier crackdown.

During the operation, KE officials once again faced resistance as mobs gathered to disrupt the drive. Miscreants allegedly involved in chronic electricity theft also threatened media teams present at the site.

A KE spokesperson said teams disconnected underground cables being used for illegal connections despite hostile conditions.

“Our staff again faced violence during the drive, but with support from security and law-enforcement personnel, the operation was completed,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that such theft networks undermine system reliability, increase commercial losses, damage infrastructure and pose serious safety risks to surrounding areas, while disrupting supply for paying consumers.

KE said it regularly conducts enforcement operations in theft-prone areas, where repeated attempts are made to obstruct utility teams from carrying out their duties.

Reiterating its stance, the utility said it remains committed to eliminating electricity theft and protecting critical infrastructure across its service area, adding that strict action against power theft will continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
