PCB considers former stars for Multan Sultans management ahead of PSL 11

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has begun consultations on appointing former cricketers for the Multan Sultans team management ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League, sources said on Wednesday.

A final decision on Multan Sultans’ new ownership will be taken after the conclusion of PSL 11.

In the meantime, the PCB has started shortlisting former international players for the team’s coaching and management setup.

Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, ex-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, and former opening batter Taufeeq Umar are being considered for roles in the coaching staff.

Abdul Razzaq is expected to be offered the position of head coach, while Mushtaq Ahmed may be appointed as assistant coach.

Taufeeq Umar is likely to be offered the role of batting coach.

For administrative matters, the name of former PCB chairman Rameez Raja has also surfaced, the sources added.

The finalisation of Multan Sultans’ management will take place after approval from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, according to the sources.

Mushtaq Ahmed has previously worked with Multan Sultans as a spin consultant, while Abdul Razzaq has served as a power-hitting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Taufeeq Umar has also held the position of batting coach for the Pakistan women’s cricket team.

The sources said that during PSL 11, all operational matters related to Multan Sultans will remain under the supervision of the PCB.

Following the tournament, the PCB will finalise the franchise’s new owner.

It is worth recalling that Ali Tareen had stepped away from Multan Sultans after not receiving a renewal letter for the PSL franchise.

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League is scheduled to begin in March next year.
