Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi prepare appeals against Toshakhana-II verdict

Former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have prepared appeals to challenge the verdict against them in the Toshakhana-II case.

The appeals are set to be filed in the Islamabad High Court on Monday through Barrister Salman Safdar.

The PTI had earlier announced its intention to challenge the ruling in court.

On December 20, an Islamabad court had sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to a total of 17 years in prison each under various sections in the Toshakhana-II case.

The appeals argue that the court relied on statements from dismissed witness Inamullah Shah, and an approver, which was legally impermissible.

The petition contends that the prosecution failed to prove allegations against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, and that multiple sentences cannot be awarded for the same offence.

Moreover, it claims that the court did not have jurisdiction over the case.

The appeals further state that Sohail Abbasi was illegally designated as a key witness, the Bulgari jewellery set was legally in possession of the former ruling couple in line with the Toshakhana rules and the case was filed without proper investigation.

The petitions also assert that the applicants do not qualify as public servants, making the proceedings against them contrary to the law.

It may be recalled that in its verdict in the Toshakhana-II case, the court had sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 10 years each under one section, and an additional seven years each under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The court also imposed fines exceeding Rs16 million on the couple.
