In view of rising security challenges and the threat of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government has decided to modernise the police force along advanced lines, with plans to procure large quantities of the latest weapons, surveillance equipment and armoured vehicles.
According to police officials in Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have prepared a comprehensive procurement plan to enhance the effectiveness of counterterrorism operations.
A detailed list of required weapons and equipment has also been finalised.
Under the plan, around 6,000 small and large weapons will be purchased or upgraded.
The plan includes the acquisition of 50 Beretta sniper rifles, 100 additional sniper rifles and 1,250 latest automatic weapons.
Authorities have also decided to purchase reels to upgrade 3,000 small arms and 3,250 large weapons.
To strengthen surveillance capabilities, the police will procure 430 thermal binoculars and 330 thermal TI cameras.
For aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering, the procurement plan includes 73 surveillance drones and four search drones.
In addition, 14 anti-drone guns will be acquired to counter drone-related threats.
To deal with explosive threats during counterterrorism operations, 20 modern bomb disposal suits will be provided.
For search operations, the police will also purchase 1,000 cameras.
To ensure the safety of personnel, the plan includes the purchase of 6,000 bulletproof jackets and 6,000 bulletproof helmets.
Additionally, the front windscreens of 39 police vehicles and five double-cabin vehicles will be made fully bulletproof.
The officials further said that 210 B7-level armoured vehicles and 1,200 operational armoured vehicles will be procured for the police.
Side armouring and body fabrication of police vehicles are also part of the modernisation plan.
The initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacity of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and improve its ability to respond effectively to evolving security and terrorism-related challenges across the province.
