Police on Wednesday recovered the alleged murder weapon in a shocking domestic murder case, in which DSP Usman Haider stands accused of killing his wife and daughter.
The pistol is reportedly not government-issued and has been sent for forensic testing.
DSP Haider remains in police custody on a three-day physical remand, during which investigators are conducting further questioning.
The case has been registered at Burki Police Station, and the court has directed police to present any recovered items before it. The suspect is scheduled to be produced again on December 18.
The Punjab Police confirmed that DSP Haider allegedly fired the recovered pistol at his wife and daughter following a domestic dispute.
According to sources, he had two marriages, and the deceased woman was his first wife, contracted through a love marriage.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has suspended DSP Haider, following a report submitted by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, and departmental action under police rules has been initiated.
Separate disciplinary action has also been taken against police officials over procedural lapses.
The SHO Kahna was suspended for failing to register a murder case immediately under Section 302, while Chowki Incharge Asal Mohammad Zulfiqar and ASI Allah Rakha were also suspended.
Initial proceedings were reportedly carried out under Section 174 instead of a proper murder case, and the daughter’s body was temporarily buried as unclaimed before senior authorities intervened.
Senior police officials said investigations are ongoing, and all aspects of the case, including potential procedural lapses, are under review.
