Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing the party of undermining national interests and failing to deliver governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where it has been in power for more than a decade.
Addressing party workers in NA-127 in Lahore, Tarar said the KP government had “turned the province into ruins” despite ruling for 12 years, adding that the PTI had failed to initiate a single major development project.
He claimed the party’s founder “looted £190 million” and wanted the country to default. “The PTI wanted to weaken the country’s defence,” he added.
Tarar said the PTI founder had misappropriated funds meant for hospitals and welfare schemes.
He further claimed that the fear of Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir “grips the enemy”, adding that under his leadership, Pakistan’s armed forces had downed seven enemy aircraft.
He credited the field marshal for helping stabilise the national economy.
The minister said that PTI’s recent public gathering at Peshawar’s Sunday Bazaar was an “utter failure”, adding that the party “works against Pakistan’s interests” and had set aside both the Kashmir and Palestine issues during its tenure.
Tarar also alleged that the PTI founder’s sisters had appeared on Indian media to speak against Pakistan’s armed forces, saying they “should be ashamed”.
He said the PML-N was fulfilling the promises made during its election campaign, while the PTI had “carried out the very actions the enemy wanted”.
Tarar added that the party’s slogan of “no Khan, no Pakistan” was unacceptable, saying the people of Pakistan rejected such thinking entirely.
He pointed out that the PTI had written to the IMF, asking it not to assist Pakistan.
