K-Electric (KE) has intensified its crackdown on power theft, removing nearly 4,000 kilograms of illegal wiring in a major operation across its industrial region.
The latest action is part of the utility’s ongoing drive to curb electricity theft and improve network safety and reliability.
More than 6,200 illegal connections were dismantled during the coordinated effort, which targeted 17 high-loss feeders responsible for an estimated annual loss of 44 million units.
The operation spanned KE’s five industrial zones — Bin Qasim, Korangi Industrial Model Zone, North Karachi, SITE and Uthal.
A total of 54 teams were deployed to remove hooked connections (kundas) in areas including Haroonabad, Bela, Lakhra, Banodi, Hub Ameerabad, Sector 6-D, SITE Superhighway, Soomar Goth, Hadeed, Gaghar Phatak, Mehran Town 6-D and Bilal Colony Korangi.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana said, “This is not the first time a kunda removal drive has taken place here. These are industrial feeders where there is zero loadshed. So, electricity thieves have extra motivation to steal from here. An operation such as this is unfortunately followed by the installation of kundas again. We request support from the LEAs and the government to curb this menace of theft permanently.”
KE said it is working to improve recoveries and shift users from illegal to regularised connections. Reducing theft and ensuring timely bill payments are key to lowering losses, cutting load-shedding and strengthening supply reliability across the city.
The utility reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, dependable and business-friendly energy ecosystem to support Karachi’s economic growth.
